Experience
I earned my undergraduate degree from New York University's Stern School of Business. I then worked for two years as a systems analyst while also volunteering at the after-school program for New York City's at-risk students in elementary school, middle school, and high school. My volunteer work inspired me to dive deeper into education and I became a substitute teacher and enrolled at Columbia University where I earned my graduate degree in elementary education with a focus on gifted education. I subsequently began teaching math at a local middle school. I believe it is important to encourage students to develop pride in their work and their accomplishments if they are going to develop an authentic love of learning. My experience has developed into an instructional approach that strives to integrate students' daily lives into their curriculum. This has created a more engaged and curious classroom environment where students actively seek to develop ownership over their academic path and learning environment. I carry this approach over into my tutoring sessions. I currently tutor several subjects, including pre-algebra, algebra 1, elementary math, middle school math, reading and writing, English, elementary math, high school English and college English. I also enjoy helping students prepare for their ISEE and SSAT exams.
